En nu, in onze tijd, noemen we stikstof een vervuiler.
We zeggen: er is te veel.
Het verstikt de natuur. We moeten het beperken, controleren, stoppen.
Maar herken je het patroon?

- We halen stikstof uit de lucht (Haber-Bosch proces)
- We concentreren het op één plek (stallen, akkers)
- We verbreken de symbiose (monoculturen zonder bacteriën)
De klaver wist het al
Klavertje drie zegt: stikstof komt uit de lucht, gratis, oneindig.
- Je hoeft het niet te winnen
- Je hoeft het niet te concentreren
- Je hoeft het alleen maar uit te nodigen
De bacteriën weten hoe
Geef ze ruimte.
De duindoorn weet het ook
Op de duinhellingen, op de arme zandgrond, bindt ze stikstof via Frankia.
- Ze vraagt niets
- Ze geeft
Het hartenklokje weet het
Het groeit waar de overgang ligt, waar de systemen samenkomen, waar liefde stroomt.
En de heide? De heide wacht. Want ze weet dat extremen komen en gaan. Ze weet dat soms de balans verdwijnt. En ze weet dat wanneer dat gebeurt, iemand moet wachten. Iemand moet de infrastructuur bewaren.
Iemand moet zeggen: hier blijf ik staan, tot het terugkeert.
